This charming piece of English porcelain. Potpourris and pastille (incense) burners became popular among the upper classes to mask the odor of raw sewage wafting into their homes from the city streets. Ormolu achieved its highest technical and artistic development in 18th century France, and the technique spread to England. However, workmanship had deteriorated by the 19th century. Gilt bronze rather than ormolu. By the 20th century, true ormolu was no longer produced because the process was so toxic. Although William Lowe was one of the lesser-known Staffordshire potters,The decoration is clearly inspired by that of Chinese Ming period porcelains. Approximately 10 inches high.

Chinese screen,Antique Chinese Oriental 6 Panel Screen with soap stone,This antique "Chinese Coromandel Screen" measures 72 inches high with six panels that are 16 inches each. This black lacquer Chinese "Coromandel"screen has birds and flowers painted on its reverse and figures that are carved from different colors of ivory and mother of pearl on its front that are reading scrolls and playing go. The back of this wonderful screen is hand painted show birds,flowers and branches. As beautiful as this screen looks in the pictures it is even more important looking in person. This antique screen dates from the 1860 to 1880 period. The condition is very good with just some lacquer and ivory loss. Just in from a local estate
